cozy is. . .

Thus concludes my posts inspired by Write Alm's November Prompt-A-Day .
Despite being a bit unpredictable with my posting, I really enjoyed these prompts.
I'm even contemplating joining the December one. . .
We'll see  :)

make a wish

Today we had fun seeing the movie Frozen
and I happened to wear my wish necklace.
When I looked at today's Write Alm prompt ,
it made me smile to see
the necklace and prompt matched :)

As for actually making a wish,
I hope that all my days,
Black Fridays or not,
have a heart.

gratitude

Thankful. . .
successful first attempt at making a pie
family
memories of past Thanksgivings with Nana
delicious food
crisp air and sunny sky

family matters

my sisters and I helped my PopPop make dressing today
it's delicious
the cornbread, onion, celery, chicken broth, and sage combination

PopPop started making it
when Nana no longer could
and he's now passing it on to us

food is important
as is learning to bake
but this recipe is made because family matters

whisper

dear book,
keep me company
in the waiting room
let me read
and enjoy the peace of your whisper
even as you recount war

quiet beauty

is it rude to take a picture of your sister's cello teacher's kitchen, even if you are simply in awe of the way it exudes real, quiet beauty? i hope not.

in my cup

a steady stream of school, dance, music, and bubbles I wasn't expecting — a cup running over, good even as I wonder at the spill

life is fragile

life is fragile like roses
mysteriously delivered
by grandparents living at an assisted living facility
yet dreaming of independent living again

life is fragile like the first steps
my grandpa has taken for a few years
after MS cracked cruelly down

life is fragile like this moment
leaving as soon as it's arrived

life is fragile

mother | daughter

my mom knows
Paris black tea is best on Monday mornings,
living room furniture is meant to be rearranged,
bookshelves are the best furniture pieces,
Amazon books should not come bent,
breakfast is a good time for philosophizing,
school schedules are supposed to be tweaked,
TJ Maxx is an unpredictably great store,
soaking in epsom salts is the best care for sore muscles,
and talking to Jesus is the best care for you soul.

I hope she also knows I like being her daughter.

i dared

today were auditions at dance
for our performance about Hellen Keller next summer
and i had the opportunity
to choreograph a dance to this song,
It is Well With My Soul sung by Daniel Martin Moore,
for my solo audition.
i suppose i dared to dance to this song.

but what is the real dare—

dancing to the song
or living its words?

begins with 'M'

Morning: the time I got up and went with my family to work on readying my grandparent's house for an estate sale

More: what we seem to always need to do and get

Meet anyone you'd like to date? : the one question my grandma asked me

Me? : amused

find the language

past the mere syllables we speak lies something more—communication traveling through words and tone and expression—an art form that masquerades as mundane—the trick is to spy it in each lilt and look—to dig deep and find the language

regret(s)

dig a hole when you're little
look up and smile
totally unaware of wrong

dig a hole when you're older
look down and worry
about the mess

dig a hole with hasty words
dig a hole with selfish thought patterns

dig a hole with that test answer you erased the second before time was called

didn't look up?
dug a hole?

deal with dirt
regret digging

peace will only come when you
turn
to the one who can give you a bath

happiness is. . .

family home together

getting out of breath while dancing

waking the puppies up in the morning

finishing a worthwhile book

wearing a sweatshirt (or something a bit dressy—whatever fits the day)

rain drumming on the windows at night

sleeping in clean sheets

warm breath meeting cool night air

laughing with a friend

finding the answer to a long math problem

deep voices singing about the baby Jesus' tiny little hands

twinkly lights

holding a warm cup of tea

first thing I see

first thing I often see is dark
invaded by glaring alarm
I squint
get up and outwardly ready for day
still inwardly dim

what I'd like to see first
is pictured above
an aspiration
I have
trouble attaining

but I took this picture
one morning
in dark
happy with
the light

pictures can lie
illuminating only part
yet
they can reveal the perspective
you want

be present

Be present
as the leaves change and glow

Be present
as you babysit the little girl you remember as a baby

Be present
as you drive to babysitting, church, and dance

Be present
as Christmas gift ideas fill your mind

Be present
as the puppies are growing, ever-growing

Be present
as you have the opportunity to learn

Be present
as dance auditions and a piano recital near

Be present
as the great unknown of college looms in the distance

Be present
as sisters talk and laugh and sing and whistle

as life keeps moving
Be present

first

firsts excite
when you're a puppy
born in March
and the whole world of autumn is revealed

leaves crunch
burst with color
and sun shines on cool grass

you don't think about leaves
racing to hit the ground first
and losing their glorious perch in the tree

you delight in falling as well as rising
learning, playing
happy to meet experience

Joining the November Prompt-A-Day  at Write Alm a bit late— writing a post each day is a first for me— excited to give it a try. . .
